Key Perks
Notice below that no matter which build type you choose, a few Perks are considered nearly mandatory for all characters. They include:
- At least one Lifegiver because Hit Points are that important.
- Even Tougher for tanks. Even some snipers use this one.
- Bonus Rate of Fire (or Bonus HtH Attacks) so you shoot (or punch) faster.
Avoid These Perks
- All medical perks, unless you're trying a Role-Play character.
- Except in TB, Earlier Sequence is not usually preferred in RT over Adrenaline Rush.
- Weapon Handling. ST-related penalties to Hit Chance are offset with higher gun skill.
- Gambler because Gambling is not working yet.
- Tree Trunk Thighs
- All of the GAIN perks
- Ghost
- Iron Grip
- All of the AC perks, unless you really want an Armor Class specialist, but remember that AC only works when your character is running: Livewire, Dodger, Dodger+, HtH Evade
For Tanky Characters
For treasure hunters and other PvE explorers, or even some PvP fighters:
- Level 3: Adrenaline Rush or Quick Recovery
- Level 6: Toughness or Quick Pockets
- Level 9: Even Tougher
- Level 12: Lifegiver
- Level 15: Lifegiver or Man of Steel
- Level 18: Bonus Rate of Fire
- Level 21: Action Boy or Bonus Ranged Damage
- Level 24: Stonewall or More Ranged Damage
For Snipers
For a proper sniper, you should decide which gun you'll mainly use, check the weapon's range, and plan your snipers Sight accordingly. At the bare minimum, this means being able to see at least as far as your gun shoots, but it is advised to have Sight 1 or 2 hexes beyond that. Remember to account for Drugs when planning builds with such precision. Typical perks might be:
- Level 3: More Critical
- Level 6: Even More Criticals
- Level 9: Sharpshooter
- Level 12: Better Criticals
- Level 15: Right Between the Eyes
- Level 18: Bonus Rate of Fire
- Level 21: Action Boy or Lifegiver
- Level 24: Action Boy or Hit the Gaps
Other Fun Perks
Not mentioned above are some perks for builds that can be fun, like Sneakers, Pyromaniacs, Turn-Based builds, Throwers, Rocketeers, etc. Some are:
- Heave Ho! and Heave Ho!!
- Both Pyromaniac perks
- In Your Face! and all of the HtH perks
- Silent Death and Silent Running
This guide won't cover everything - there are many thing you can experiment with later.
